Hail the Creek Taxi

Kayakers on Big Darby Creek. (Annette Boose)

The Creek Taxi will soon be in service to help canoers and kayakers enjoy a great float on Big Darby Creek.

This special, one-time service is set for Saturday June 10. Bring your own registered canoe or kayak to the Upper Darby Canoe Access at Prairie Oaks Metro Park, 4275 Amity Rd. Hilliard OH 43026. Park there and enjoy a 2-mile self-guided float on the creek.

Take out at the designated spot near Beaver Lake, and the Creek Taxi will be waiting to drive you (and your boat) back to the start point. This special service will run from 2pm to 4pm and eliminates the hassle of having to use two cars or needing to call someone to pick you up at the end of your relaxing float down the creek.
Note that the Creek Taxi service ends at 4pm, so allow yourself good time to complete your canoe or kayak ride. It takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes to float from the Upper Canoe Access to the take out point.

If this sounds like a great offer but you don’t have your own boat, Metro Parks has you covered. On every summer holiday, May 29, July 4 and Sept 4 you can canoe on Darby Bend Lakes at Prairie Oaks from 1-4pm. We provide the canoe, life jacket and instruction. All you have to do is show up and wait for your turn. Visitors get 20 minutes to paddle around the lakes while enjoying being on the water on a hot summer day. Sharon Woods, Battelle Darby Creek and Three Creeks also offer Canoe the Lakes programs all summer long.
