Metro Parks’ Deputy Director retires after 35 years of dedicated service to the parks
Metro Parks wishes Larry Peck well after a lengthy career in park service. Larry began working as the Metro Parks Deputy Director in 1991 and he played a pivotal role in expanding the park district and reaching millions of new visitors. During his tenure, Metro Parks more than doubled in size, opening 13 new parks, including Scioto Audubon Metro Park, a unique park in the heart of the city. Larry worked with many partners to create innovative programs and solutions to challenges in park management.
“Larry never sought personal glory or recognition; he worked solely for the betterment of the park district and everyone involved. Nobody cares more about the experiences our visitors have each day than he does,” said Metro Parks Executive Director Tim Moloney.
Larry began his career in public service as a summer playground leader with the Steubenville Parks and Recreation Department. He worked for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) as the Division of Parks and Recreation Deputy Chief of Operations beginning in 1983. He continues to advocate for parks as a lecturer at the Ohio State University. Larry has even served as an international representative in the field of parks and recreation, making multiple trips to the city of Hefei, in China, to consult on the development of natural areas, parks and land management. He is leaving a legacy in parks not just locally, but internationally.
“It has been my honor to serve Metro Parks as a director for 35 years,” said Larry. “This is truly the greatest park district.”
Please join us in congratulating Larry Peck on his service to Metro Parks!
