Last year, Metro Parks completed a community impact survey. We asked visitors, volunteers and community members to tell us what they love about Metro Parks, how we could improve things, the best ways to communicate and many more questions. Several focus groups were held with staff and key stakeholders in Franklin County. The Impact Group compiled all these results to give us a snapshot of how we best serve the visitors and people of Franklin County.

Highlights include:

  • 50% of respondents visit a Metro Park at least once a week, and another 30% visit monthly.
  • Over 88% of respondents say the parks are very important to their lives.
  • Parks were rated as excellent or very good for overall value, given the modest property tax.
  • Visitors love the signature experiences like the canopy walk, via ferrata and winter hikes series.
  • 92% of respondents strongly agree that Metro Parks are well-maintained, clean and safe.
  • People appreciate the free opportunities for learning and connecting with nature at programs.
  • Successes include new park investments, habitat restoration and increased wildlife viewing.

Suggestions for improvement included:

  • Desire to reach more diverse audiences, including outreach to schools and community groups.
  • Continue to connect to neighborhoods and find ways to overcome transportation challenges.
  • Continue to protect and restore natural habitats in central Ohio.

Visitors consistently highlighted cleanliness, natural beauty and a variety of activities, while also recognizing the dedicated leadership and staff who bring passion and professionalism to the community. The overall message was that every day, Metro Parks welcomes everyone to over 20 parks that are clean and safe and provide awe-inspiring nature, trails, adventures and gathering spaces that bring people together and protect the land for generations to come.
