Friends of Metro Parks Commemorative Tree Program

Tree-image(Part of the Friends of Metro Parks Commemorative Tree & Bench Program). The cost for each tree planted is $500.

This includes the tree, plaque and continued maintenance of the tree (fertilizing, mulching, pruning, etc.) After the tree is planted, an email will be sent to the donor with a map of the planting location. If the donor wishes, a card of acknowledgement will be sent to the recipient’s family advising that their loved one has been honored or commemorated in this special way. Trees will be planted during the fall and spring planting season, but they may be ordered at any time. These trees will be warranted and replaced for the first two years of the original planting. Commemorative trees will remain in place for the duration of the tree’s lifespan. At the end of this period, Metro Parks may, at its own discretion, replace or remove the tree.

RECOMMENDED TREES
Tree selection and planting locations are chosen based on species, topography, soil condition, light exposure, mature plant size and appropriateness for placement in a Metro Park. These factors are determined by the Metro Parks arborist and ensure that your commemorative planting will continue to thrive for many years to come. Use the DONATION FORM and select Commemorative Tree, then request a certain type of tree in the comments for your recognition. A comprehensive list of native trees can be found at metroparks.net/trees. Metro Parks will only plant native species which will thrive in the location(s) requested.

RECOGNITION
Each park will maintain a commemorative plaque which lists all of the commemorative trees planted within that park. The commemorative plaque is located at a park’s nature center or other common easily accessible area of a park.
