About

Nestled within a scenic nature preserve, the 123-acre Inniswood Metro Gardens is a source of inspiration for people of all ages. Streams and woodlands filled with wildflowers and wildlife provide a majestic backdrop to the beautifully landscaped areas. Inniswood boasts more than 2,000 species of plants, specialty collections and several theme gardens. You can support Inniswood Metro Gardens by becoming a member of the Inniswood Garden Society.

Volunteering

Learn about opportunities for adult volunteers and how to join Inniswood Volunteers Inc (IVI) by calling our volunteer coordinator at 614-895-6226. In addition, Inniswood welcomes volunteers for the Junior Volunteer program (age 11-17), which provides youth an opportunity to assist with education programs and garden maintenance. For details, contact the senior environmental educator at 614-895-6241.

Feature Gardens

Brookwood Trail Garden

A seasonal display garden transitions into shade plantings, a hosta collection and a sunny perennial border.

Circle Garden

Four mixed planting points create a compass of seasonal color inviting visitors to choose a path of discovery.

Conifer Garden

A collection of evergreen and deciduous conifers, including dwarf varieties.

Cutting Garden

Annual and perennial plants suitable for use as cut flowers.

Fern Garden

A test site of the Hardy Fern Foundation, featuring a collection of rare and unusual hardy ferns.

Herb Garden

A wide variety of herbs grouped by their uses; features a thyme collection.

Memorial Garden

Shade gardens with island beds of mixed perennial and woody plants, location of signature Inniswood gate and site where the Inniswood hosta was discovered.

Pollinator Garden

Native prairie plants and grasses.

Rose Garden

Collection of hybrid tea, floribunda, climbing and Earth-Kind™ roses.

Sisters’ Garden

Seven gardens within a 2.8-acre children’s garden honoring Grace and Mary Innis.

Woodland Rock Garden

Features cascading waterfalls amid conifers and woodland plants.

Chipmunk Chatter Trail: 0.6 miles

A paved multiuse trail located at the end of the parking lot on the exterior of the gardens. Biking is allowed at Inniswood only here and in the parking lot.

More for Pets

Domesticated dogs and cats are not permitted at Inniswood anywhere beyond the parking lot, except on the Chipmunk Chatter Trail on the exterior of the gardens (see above). Pets shall be on a leash no longer than 6 feet.

The former home of sisters, Grace and Mary Innis, Innis House is the site for education programs, staff offices, and has a non-lending horticulture library. Work of local artists is featured in the main room on a monthly basis. Public restrooms are located outside of Innis House on the main grounds. Open Tuesday through Friday, 8am to 4:30pm  and from 11am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.
