Behind the Parks: Meet Becky at Metro Parks Headquarters

BECKY COLLINS

Ranger/Operations Specialist – Metro Parks Headquarters

What I do at Metro Parks
I’ve been with Metro Parks for just over 20 years. I coordinate training, order uniforms and have numerous other administrative duties to support our Park Rangers and Operations Department. Since October, I’ve been with Human Resources, adding drug testing and safety work to my duties. I’m currently drafting new safety procedures and completing background checks.

What I love most about my job
My awesome coworkers!

My favorite Metro Parks activity
I like to walk at Inniswood Metro Gardens when I’m stressed, as it’s very peaceful, and the wisteria arch, which blooms in May, is especially beautiful. I love kayaking in the quarry lakes at Prairie Oaks and on Big Darby Creek. The things you can see while kayaking the creek are amazing. On one float I saw an eagle flying over the creek.

If I had just 60 seconds to share why I love working at Metro Parks, I’d say…
I’ve had the pleasure of seeing parks develop from nothing. In the case of Scioto Audubon Metro Park, I saw the site many times before we began to develop it, and I thought there was no way this would ever become a beautiful park. But I saw the amazing process and the transformation. All my coworkers share my passion and commitment to the parks and to the conservation of natural resources.
