My perfect day at Metro Parks

Visitors often ask park staff what their favorite park is, and that can be an impossible question to answer because each park has a trait that makes it special and unique! As a park employee I can’t pick a favorite park, but I can describe what my perfect day in the Metro Parks would include and what activities I’d like to experience.

Caroline fishing at Clear Creek Metro Park.

My absolute favorite fishing spot in Ohio is at Clear Creek Metro Park. Going early on a sunny day and driving into the park will take your breath away! I bring my waders, a bag packed with snacks and fishing gear, and enjoy the beauty of the creek for hours. If I’m lucky I’ll even catch a fish or two while I’m there!

After getting my fill of fishing, a hike at Walnut Woods Metro Park is a great way to get your heart pumping. I love that the Tall Pines area is pet friendly and easily accessible, no matter the weather! The soaring pines create a dramatic landscape and the perfect backdrop for photos! It always manages to take my breath away.

The perfect end to the perfect day has to include archery and a sunset hike at Scioto Grove Metro Park. The 3D archery range is a fun and challenging course that features a variety of fun foam animal targets! The course winds through the woods and offers archers the unique opportunity of hiking to their target, and practicing their aim from different elevations and distances.

Caroline kayaking from Scioto Audubon Metro Park, with a great view of downtown Columbus.

If I could fit more into my perfect day it would include a stroll through the Inniswood Metro Gardens to see the gorgeous seasonal floral displays, and of course a sunset downtown kayak float to see the skyline illuminated by the sinking sun at Scioto Audubon Metro Park.

Go out and have your perfect Metro Parks day, today!
