Mike Heisey at his retirement celebration.

A lot of things happening in the ranger ranks over the last few weeks.

Mike Heisey, Glacier Ridge Park Manager, retired on August 31, 2016 after 37 years of service to the Metro Parks. Mike started his career at Innsiwood Metro Gardens as the horticulturist. He was then promoted to Assistant Manager at Innsiwood. Mike then was promoted to manager of Glacier Ridge where he spent the last 14 years of his career. Mike was the first, and so far only manger of Glacier Ridge. We are extremely appreciative of his service and wish him the best in his retirement!

Bryan Knowles has been named as Mike’s successor as manager of Glacier Ridge. Bryan has been working for Metro Parks since 2002 when he was hired as a part-time ranger at Prairie Oaks Metro Park. A year later he was promoted to full-time ranger at Blendon Woods Metro Park. He worked there for three years and then transferred to Sharon Woods Metro Park. A year later he was promoted to assistant park manager at Inniswood Metro Gardens where he work for five years before transferring back to Sharon Woods in 2012.

Matt Kaderly is transferring to the assistant manager position at Sharon Woods. Matt began his career with Metro Parks as a part-time ranger at Blacklick Woods Metro Park in 2005. He was promoted to full-time ranger at Sharon Woods in 2007 where he worked until his promotion to assistant manager park operations in 2014.

DJ White has been promoted to second shift supervisor. DJ started with Metro Parks in 2008 as an intern in the Design and Visitor Services department, organizing and working with the Columbus School Intern program. He then took a position as a part-time ranger at Highbanks Metro Park in 2009. He was promoted to full-time ranger at the Greenways in 2011.

We are proud of these rangers as they continue to further their careers at Metro Parks. We look forward to seeing them excel in their new positions. Congratulations!
